Bulldogs Defeat Kingsport Bracket Championship, Punch Ticket to Series

Johnson City, TN — The Tennessee Wesleyan University baseball team earned a trip to the NAIA World Series on Saturday with a walk-off win in the Kingsport Bracket Championship. The Bulldogs defeated the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) 3-2 in 10 innings to claim the title.

Walk-Off Win Sends Bulldogs to World Series

With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, Tennessee Wesleyan's Ethan Smith singled to drive in the winning run and send the Bulldogs to the NAIA World Series. It was a dramatic end to a hard-fought game that saw both teams trade the lead several times.

The Bulldogs will now travel to Lewiston, Idaho, for the NAIA World Series, which begins on May 24. They will be one of 10 teams competing for the national championship.

The 2024 schedule features games against three teams that qualified for the 2023 NAIA World Series and 10 teams who appeared in the 2023 NAIA Baseball Championship Opening Round.

The Bulldogs will open the World Series on May 24 against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO). USAO won the 2023 NAIA Baseball Championship Opening Round - Jackson Bracket and finished the season with a record of 43-16.
